Our Plastic World

To Plastic or Not to Plastic!

Our World is Wrapped in Plastic

Plastic is everywhere. We wrap our food in it, cook with it, wear it, store our belongings in it, eat and drink from it. We wrap our trash in it.

It's in our furniture, our kids' toys, our clothing, shoes, glasses, TVs, toothbrushes, cars, phones, medical tools—even our credit cards.

It’s overwhelming—and I haven’t even listed it all. But you get the picture.

It’s time to reduce our plastic use as much as possible....Why?

We all know plastic doesn’t biodegrade. That’s not new. But we continue to see the mounting consequences—plastic litter choking our oceans, rivers, roadways, and landfills.

And it doesn’t just sit there.

As plastic slowly breaks down, it creates microplastics—

tiny fragments that infiltrate our environment, our food systems, and ultimately, our bodies

What’s the harm?

Research is revealing alarming health impacts of microplastics.

Here are just a few:

1)      Found in lung tissue

2)      Disrupt hormones (affecting fertility, increasing estrogen)

3)      Cause chronic inflammation and immune system activation

4)      Contribute to oxidative stress and mitochondrial damage

5)      Found in placental tissue

6)      Can cross the blood-brain barrier

7)      Linked to digestive and gut health issues

What can we do? Reducing plastic in your life doesn’t have to be complicated. Here are some simple, actionable steps to start:

·  Store food in glass or stainless steel containers—mason jars work great

·  Swap plastic wrap for beeswax cloths

·  Ditch single-use plastics: straws, utensils, and water bottles

·  Encourage restaurants to use paper or compostable takeout containers

·   Choose bamboo options for items like toothbrushes and hairbrushes

·   Buy in bulk to cut down on packaging

·   Bring reusable cloth bags when you shop

·   Compost your food waste—it reduces trash and feeds your soil

These steps are small but powerful. If you're worried about how plastics might be affecting your health, this is a practical place to begin.

Let’s take action—your body, your community, and the planet will thank you.
